TETCO LTD, a privately owned company with an electricity importation and exportation license, is partnered with the Somaliland government to import electricity from Ethiopia, In order to purchase power from Ethiopia, the Somaliland government joined with Tetco Ltd through a special purpose vehicle (SPV) after lengthy discussions with the Ethiopian government on the best method to guarantee the two brotherly nations utilise the potential of each other. The cost of electricity in Somaliland is one of the highest in the world.
This is in stark contrast to rates in neighboring countries such as Ethiopia, which is able to source electricity at approximately US$0.05 cents per kilowatt. This project intends to narrow that gap. TETCO LTD. will be guided by the Ministry of Mineral and Energy policies and the instructions of the Somaliland Energy Commission. Ethiopia is currently an energy powerhouse and exports electricity to most of its neighbors, such as Djibouti, Sudan, and Kenya.
Somaliland is pleased to be the newest member of the above group. TETCO LTD. will have a very strong working relationship with all current energy service providers (ESPs) in Somaliland. And intends to supply them cleaner and cheaper Ethiopia imported electricity
